What to tell the world?

I kind of always figured I would start a blog as some point.  I have the perfect background for it.  I'm a bit of a nerd, a heavy reader, have a couple of English degrees (don't let this fool you--I will still have frequent typos), and I teach.  That being said, since completing my degree, I've been on a self-imposed English hiatus.  For the past two years, I've barely read (and what I have read certainly wouldn't be on any college level reading list), and I don't write unless I absolutely have to.

What I have been doing is photography.  I began playing around a couple of years ago, and I think I'm getting better.  I have a long ways to go, but at least I'm having fun.  One of the interesting challenges I face is that I only seem to enjoy photographing things that could potentially kill me.  Even I find this strange since in most things, I'm a grade A chicken.  But I love chasing around spiders, bees, and your standard creepy crawlies.  I also photograph dirt track stock car races, fire fighters, lightening (this is a new one), underwater, and other things along those lines.

Most of those activities will probably show up here again.  I like to talk about racing, both local short track and NASCAR.  I come from a big fire fighting family.  I also come from a long line of beekeepers.  Occasionally, I will have something professionally to complain about (like my office mate who doesn't speak to me--not for any particular reason--she just never has), but I usually like to leave work at work.

Until then,
Amy L
